70s Fashion - Timeless Craze

One good example of evolution is the fashion industry. Each year, new collections of outfits are being released together with their matching cosmetics. Among all the past decades, the 1970 got the biggest highlight in fashion. Women then have the right to wear what they want and were given a choice whether to show skin or not.

During the 70s, no one would require a woman to wear something that would cover her whole body. She can wear a halter top with a pair of trousers if she wants to. Hot pants are also among her choices. She can also put on maxi skirt, mini skirt or midi length skirt. No one would stop her from wearing what she wants. Fashion freedom for women was gained during this decade.

Inspired by the Vietnam War and the Watergate Scandal, designers created collections that are of cutting edge - something which is different from the usual and would make a woman stand out. During this decade, feminism is pervasive, making an eye opener to the public that woman should have a say and one of their form of expression is fashion.

Anything goes during the 7os and Nike paves way on having running shoes not just for men but for women as well. During this period, men started to borrow some of the women’s fashion sense like applying translucent nail polish. Celebrities also in this period became fond of slinky shirts and blouses and Boas.

Saturday Night Fever became a big hit and John Travolta’s fashion sense was quickly imitated by everyone; but because his clothes in the film were not regarded as comfortable - skin tight pants, platform shoes and slinky shirts got out of the beat quickly.

Two basic hair styles became popular in this period: the Afro perm for men and the long straight hair with wings for women. The long straight hair with wings which is popularized by Fawcett is really hard to achieve. It requires for long hours of ironing and curling. Any extreme outdoor activity would surely ruin this hairstyle.

For make-ups, what’s in during this era is having eyeliner, soft blush and shiny lipsticks are for women, basically a make-up that looks natural and on the go is popular. Also bronzers and tanning lotions are hit in the 70’s.
The 70s was a hit to everyone. Though fashion changes yearly, you can still see how the 70s fashion became an inspiration to all designers today.
