The Importance of Good Skin Care
They say that good skin care lets you age gracefully. This can be supported by the fact that when you are born, your skin is soft, smooth and blemish free. However, as you grow up, your skin becomes exposed to the harsh elements found in the environment. These can cause damage to your skin and over time will make your skin dry and tough. You can delay, if not prevent wrinkles and sagging from happening once you age. You can do that by observing good skin care.
Before you start exploring the many methods of good skin care, you need to know the different functions your skin serves. There are three layers that make up your skin. The innermost skin layer is called the subcutaneous tissue. This is made up of fat cells which are responsible for cushioning your body and insulating it. The dermis is the middle layer of your skin. This layer of the skin contains connective tissues. The uppermost layer is the epidermis. Your epidermis flakes off regularly, eventually to be replaced by new cells. When you are still young, new cells replace the skin that has flaked off. This keeps your skin youthful looking. However, as you age, your epidermis becomes thinner through constant exposure to UVA and UVB radiation. You produce less collagen which makes your skin saggy and wrinkly. As you age, you also lose most of your sweat glands which makes your skin prone to drying.
Good skin care is composed of two essential steps: cleansing and moisturizing. When you cleanse your skin, you rid yourself of dead skin cells and dirt. If you have clean skin, you prevent the development of pimples or acne. Caution should still be observed when planning to cleanse the skin as this procedure, if overdone can cause your skin to become too dry. This is why it is important that you moisturize right after cleansing your skin. This helps bring back the essential oil needed to keep your skin moist and looking healthy. It is recommended that you use liquid cleansers rather than bar soaps.
Unlike liquid cleanser, bar soaps have the tendency to dry your skin. You should also choose your cleansers and moisturizers carefully. There are different skin care products formulated for different skin types. You need to know your skin type before purchasing a specific product to use. Skin care products that contain Vitamin E are beneficial as this keeps your skin moist and elastic.
If you didn’t know by now, good skin care requires that you exert a good amount of effort. For those who aren’t blessed with naturally flawless skin, you have to work hard in order to keep you skin clean and healthy. You need to follow your skin care regimen strictly. If you slack off on your regimen, your efforts might be put to waste. Effort when it comes to good skin care also means that you observe some preventive measures. Avoid exposing your skin to too much radiation. This means that you need to wear sunblock especially those with a minimum SPF of 15. Avoid certain habits that can take its toll on your skin like smoking. Observe a proper diet because many of the nutrients your skin needs come from a proper and balanced diet. Do not forget to drink lots and lots of water as this will rehydrate your skin, keeping it healthy. If you observe good skin care you will be able to age beautifully and gracefully.
